The National
Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP) announced today the
success of its 2009
Annual Conference and plans for its 2010 Conference. The theme of
the 2009 conference, Advancing Healthcare Communication,? resonated
with the more than 650 attendees from across the healthcare industry and
across the United States who are active members of the pharmacy
industry's standards development organization that has led the charge of
enhancing the quality and efficiency of the healthcare system for over
30 years.
The 2009 Annual Conference featured keynote speaker, Newt Gingrich, who
gave an inspiring address to pharmacy benefit managers, retail and
independent pharmacies, software vendors, manufacturers, wholesale
distributors, database management organizations, health plans and more
all eager to continue to move healthcare reform forward and improve
communication across the healthcare industry.
Gingrich, Founder of the Center for Health Transformation, was
impressed by the enthusiasm of the group and the contributions the
organization has made to developing standards and industry guidance
within the healthcare system.? Gingrich stated, NCPDP will gain broader
recognition with sustained, progressive efforts to support the
information technology infrastructure and collaboration that will be
critical to making health reform a reality.?
At the 2009 Annual Conference, NCPDP announced election results
including newly elected members of its Board of Trustees for the
2009-2010 term, and recipients of top industry awards:

Election Results: Joining the Board of Trustees are its newly elected
Board Members: Dale Chamberlain, President of Gateway Pharmacy
Consulting, LLC; Alan Gardner, MBA, Vice President of Operations from
Rx Results, LLC; Frank McKinney, Health IT Consultant from Frank
McKinney Group LLC; and Laura Topor, Program Manager from Argus Health
Systems. John Lavin, MBA, MPH, Vice President Industry Relations from
CVS/Caremark was re-elected for a second term.Thomas TJ? Sheehan,
MBA, National Pricing Manager of Takeda Pharmaceuticals America, Inc.,
was appointed Chair, and Dale Chamberlain, President of Gateway
Pharmacy Consulting, LLC, was appointed Vice-Chair of the Board of
Trustees.

Award Recipients: NCPDP named Charlie Oltman, MBA, Target Corporation,
recipient of its prestigious TIME (The Individual Member Excellence)
Award. Mike Day of DayTech Corporation was presented the Benjamin D.
Ward Distinguished Member Award, and Miranda Rochol, Walgreen Company,
was given the Rising Star Award.
The NCPDP Annual Conference also featured ACPE accredited educational
sessions on drug pedigree, electronic prescribing (ePrescribing),
managed care auditing, personalized medicine and compounding pharmacy,
and the effect of the baby boomers on the healthcare industry.
NCPDP President Lee Ann Stember stated, We are pleased with the success
