11/3/09 - Boston Scientific gets CE Mark for PROMUS Element Stent System

3 November 2009 - US-based medical device maker Boston Scientific Corporation (NYSE: BSX) said yesterday it has obtained CE Mark for its PROMUS Element Everolimus-Eluting Coronary Stent System.

The company said that the product is its third-generation drug-eluting stent (DES) technology. Boston Scientific added that it will begin marketing the PROMUS Element system immediately in the European Union and other CE Mark countries.

The platinum chromium alloy used in the PROMUS Element stent is engineered specifically for coronary stenting. This proprietary alloy offers greater radial strength and flexibility than older alloys and provides enhanced visibility and reduced recoil, the company said. The innovative stent design improves deliverability and allows for more consistent lesion coverage and drug distribution. The advanced catheter delivery system further improves deliverability.

Boston Scientifica? said that in addition to the PROMUS Element Everolimus-Eluting Coronary Stent System, it intends to offer the TAXUS Element Paclitaxel-Eluting Coronary Stent System.
