Employees can rely on new tool for HIPAA Security Training
August 26, 2004
Alexandria, Va. – A HIPAA Security Basics Training Program will soon be available to educate employees as required by the HIPAA Security Rule.
The Rule calls for a covered entity to educate all members of its workforce on HIPAA information security.
The NACDS Foundation -- in conjunction with LearnSomething, Inc. -- developed a training tool to help employees understand responsibilities regarding the creation, use, storage and protection of patient health information.
This easy-to-use program is based in practical situations, and will be co-marketed by Pharmacy Choice, Inc.
"Our training tools emphasize the importance of training associates in real, everyday situations," said Deborah Faucette, director of pharmacy operations for the NACDS Foundation.
"These tools were designed to meet those needs and are tailored specifically to situations that associates may encounter.
The training program fits hand-in-glove with the HIPAA Security Compliance Manual currently available."
The training program – which will be available online, on CD ROM, or in hard copy – is flexible enough to meet the specific training requirements of individual companies.
A company may purchase the program as-is, or customize it to fit within the look and feel of other training programs.
It can also run through a company intranet system – providing greater access to all employees.
Additionally, Pharmacy Continuing Education (PCE) credits are available to individuals who successfully complete the training.
This program was developed with the assistance of Michael Bell, of Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, PC – a valuable contributor to HIPAA resource development.
The deadline for HIPAA Security compliance is April of 2005. Demonstrations of the training tool will soon be available.
