RxSchool Announces New Continuing Education Program at APhA 2007 in Support of National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month
Denver, Colorado – March 15, 2007 - March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness month and RxSchool (a division of Pharmacy Choice, Inc.) is proud to help increase the awareness of Colorectal Cancer through the education of its large on-line pharmacist community. “We are very excited to announce the release of a new on-line continuing education program, ‘Colorectal Cancer: Screening and Prevention’, for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, physicians and nurses,” stated Ami Marsell, program manager for RxSchool. “This is an important cause and we would like to thank everyone involved for their commitment to this quality education program.”
The program is being offered in cooperation with SOMA Medical Education Company and Creative Educational Concepts, and is supported through an unrestricted educational grant from Salix Pharmaceuticals, Inc. "Salix is proud to help emphasize the importance of screening and prevention in the fight against colorectal cancer through the power of public awareness," stated Carolyn Logan, President & CEO, Salix Pharmaceuticals.
In addition to the on-line offering, RxSchool will promote the program at the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) Annual Meeting in Atlanta, March 16-19. Conference attendees may visit RxSchool at Booth 541 for more information about the program.
Two separate recent polls support the need for this type of education. One indicates that pharmacists are among the most trusted vocations in the nation (1) and the other notes that patients who hold discussions with healthcare professionals about cancer topics are more knowledgeable about their condition and the extent and availability of treatment options than those who did not (2).
Learning objectives for this program include:
- Educate patients on the overall importance of colorectal cancer (CRC) screening and prevention
- Define the prevalence, signs and risk factors of CRC
- Discuss recommendations and procedures for early detection of CRC
- Define the importance of effective bowel preparation in CRC screening and prevention
Are you prepared to discuss CRC with your patients?
