February is American Heart Month. As everyone reading this article knows, heart disease is still the leading cause of death in the United States and is a major cause of disability. So, in 2010, as part of its strategic plan, the National Heart Blood and Lung Institute (NHLBI) will release its long awaited set of clinical guidelines for Cardiovascular Risk Reduction essentially directed at primary care providers to help adult patients reduce their risk for CVD.

On January 12th, 2010, a 7.0 quake struck Haiti, causing widespread death and destruction. As relief efforts were underway, a powerful aftershock struck the already-traumatized country and sent terrified survivors and volunteers fleeing to the streets. Americans responded with compassion and zest. Personnel from the Department of Health and Human Services treated over 1800 patients. US troops landed in Haiti recently with food and supplies.
